Embrace Your Inner Turtle
by Dana
Ever feel like a turtle?
All armored up and not venturing out of your comfort zone for fear of being vulnerable, unsuccessful, or not good enough in one way or another?
Yep. Been there, done that.
But, as I’ve learned, like the turtle you need to stick your neck out if you want to thrive.
On Wednesday evening I went to a fabulous book talk being held by my friends Lee Woodruff and Allison Gilbert. We were there to talk about the loneliness epidemic, the importance of cultivating relationships and the newly released book The Joy of Connections that Allison co-authored with the legendary Dr. Ruth Westheimer. It was an opportunity of a lifetime to work with Dr. Ruth and during the months they worked together Allison learned a lot about her, including the fact that she collected figurines of turtles. Hundreds of them!
Why?
Because she loved that turtles stick their necks out to survive and that’s exactly what we humans need to do to make meaningful connections and make great things happen… to THRIVE.
So, in what area of your life would you benefit from sticking your neck out?
Whether it be a tough conversation, meeting new people, starting a relationship, being seen for who you truly are or perhaps starting a new gig or creating a big change in your life… It will never happen unless you let go of the armor and stick your neck out.
It can be scary. And life-changing.
It’s truly the only way to create the life you want to live.
