Your Happiness Matters
"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success..."
-Albert Schweitzer
How many times have you made the assumption that you will finally be happy when you...
... land the dream job?
...find romance?
...lose 10 pounds? .
..make more money?
Success does not deliver happiness. Though it's a misperception that many have bought into, it also explains why there are so many unhappy "successful" people in the world.
There's good news.
The relationship between success and happiness is actually the opposite.
Extensive research by Sonja Lyubomirsky and Ed Diener and others has determined that higher levels of positivity, well-being and happiness leads to lower stress and anxiety, higher optimism, better relationships, greater resilience, increased energy and productivity, greater creativity, better problems solving skills…the list goes on and on.
The bottom line?
Higher levels of happiness and well-being lead to success in ALL areas of your life.
And here’s another beautiful truth - your happiness is found in the small moments that make up your days.
So if you find yourself chasing "success" as a means to being happy, it’s time to give yourself permission to hop off the hamster wheel and focus on you.
Your happiness and well-being matters.
WRITING & REFLECTION:
How do you define happiness for yourself?
What would you like to do more of to add positivity to your days? And what would you like to do less of?
