Pay attention to what you’re paying attention to
I just sucked one year of your life away. I might one day go as high as five, but I don’t know what that would do to you…
-Count Rugen – The Princess Bride
I know you’ve heard it before.
Your phone is a time suck.
Technology is getting in the way of reality.
Social media is evil.
And that might be true – but it doesn’t have to be.
There are unending wonders on the other side of that screen…
Books
Music
Entertainment
Original art
Friends that live too far away
Friends you’ve yet to meet
Windows to places you’d never see
Inspiration
And just about anything you care to learn.
It’s like having the modern version of the Great Library of Alexandria in the palm of your hand.
The trouble is, we’ve become enslaved by content that was designed to be easy and addictive.
We simply aren’t paying attention to what we’re paying attention to.
And that’s a big deal.
What you give your attention to in any given moment is your reality in that moment.
How many moments of your life have already been hijacked? If you’re like us, more than you’d like to admit.
You may have even gone on “screen diets” or vowed to “get off the grid.”
Here’s the thing…
Screen Time and all of the negative outcomes attached to it are symptoms of living on autopilot.
And while you may wish to return to a simpler time, I can assure you that technology is here to stay.
So why not use it to make your life better? You just have to grab hold of the wheel.
TRY THIS:
Every time you pick up your phone today, ask yourself…
“What do I want to get out of this?”
“How long to I want to give it?”
Every time you put your phone down today, ask yourself…
“What did I get out of that?”
Let me know how it goes!!!
